Coaches Director

The Coaches Director plays a central leadership role in supporting the coaching staff across all grade levels and ensuring that WBYF delivers a consistent, positive, and development-focused football experience. This position serves as the primary resource for coaches, helping them navigate expectations, access tools and training, and maintain alignment with the program’s values and standards. Through steady communication, guidance, and oversight, the Coaches Director helps create an environment where coaches feel supported and players can thrive.

The Coaches Director works closely with head coaches and grade-level coordinators to ensure that each team is prepared for the season. This includes helping coaches understand program policies, safety requirements, practice expectations, and communication standards. They assist with coach onboarding, ensuring that new and returning coaches have the information and resources they need—from equipment procedures to league rules to player-development guidelines.

As a member of the Rules Committee, the Coaching Director helps guide discussions around league rules, coaching standards, player development expectations, and program-wide consistency. They also serve on the Code of Conduct Committee, contributing essential insight into coach behavior, player interactions, and program values when reviewing incidents or concerns. In addition, the Coaching Director participates in the Coach Selection Committee, helping ensure that the process for selecting coaches is fair, transparent, and aligned with WBYF’s commitment to safety, development, and positive youth experiences.

A key part of the role involves fostering consistency across the program. The Coaches Director helps reinforce WBYF’s coaching philosophy, encourages collaboration between grade levels, and promotes shared approaches to player development, sportsmanship, and team culture. When questions or challenges arise, the Coaches Director provides guidance, helps resolve issues, and ensures that concerns are addressed in a fair and constructive manner. The Coaches Director also plays an important role in communication. They serve as a bridge between the board and the coaching staff, helping translate board decisions into clear expectations for coaches and bringing coach feedback back to the board. Their ability to listen, problem-solve, and communicate effectively helps maintain trust and alignment throughout the program.

In addition, the Coaches Director collaborates with the USA Football Coordinator to ensure that coaches meet certification requirements and stay informed about safety standards, including tackling techniques, concussion protocols, and best practices for youth development. They also work with the Equipment, Field, and Team Operations roles to ensure coaches have what they need for practices and games.

Overall, the Coaches Director provides essential leadership and support that strengthens the entire coaching community. Their work helps ensure that every coach feels prepared, every team receives consistent guidance, and every player benefits from a safe, positive, and well-structured football experience.
