Evaluation Nights

Equipment Needs

Helmet, shoulder pads, 2025 WBYF game jersey (if this is your first year with WBYF, we will give your child a jersey at check-in), football cleats, athletic shorts (padded football pants are not necessary), water bottle and a mouth guard. Without a mouth guard your child will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities.

If your child is still waiting to receive equipment, we will accommodate them the best we can. However, without a helmet and shoulder pads they may miss out on a few evaluation drills. Please do not stress about this — if necessary, purchase the equipment from a retail store, save the receipt, and return it after evaluation night.

Check-In Process

Each child will be checked in for attendance and designated a jersey number if they do not have one.

Dynamic Warm-Up

Each grade level will participate in a warm-up to get their minds and bodies prepared for participation.

Athlete Groupings

All athletes will be placed in groups of 8–12 (depending on grade size), grouped with other athletes of similar weight. Each group rotates through 5–6 football drill stations where WBL varsity football players and coaching staff run competitive, football-specific activities that measure football IQ and physical ability. Official evaluators are WBYF board members, WBYF head coaches, and WBL varsity coaches.

Evaluation Data

Evaluators collect observational data over the one night of evaluation. At the conclusion of the night, WBYF head coaches and board members reference that data to create balanced teams for each grade level through a formal draft selection process. There will not be an A and B team format for any grade level — that process does not align with league rules, nor with WBYF's vision and mission.

Parent and Adult Observers

This entire evaluation process is open to the public. However, all observers need to stay outside of the screen dividers in the CCCU Fieldhouse. No adults pursuing an assistant coach role for the upcoming season will be allowed on the field at any time. No assistant coaches will be designated to a team until this process is completed and an appointed WBYF head coach chooses to reach out.

Team Announcements

All athletes and families will find out who their head coach and teammates will be for the upcoming season 7–10 days after their evaluation night is complete.

Player Absences

There will NOT be makeup evaluation opportunities. If for whatever reason your child is unable to attend their designated evaluation night, please email info@wbyouthfootball.org to report the absence. Your child will be placed on a team that WBYF Coaching Coordinators and head coaches feel is the best fit based on previous experience and family phone conversations.
